Today I would like to wirte about travel. the other day i was talking with a friend about traveling and how much i like the idea of knowing new places and new experiences and that it was kind of my dream living just traveling, working in any place, save money, know the most i can in every place and after that, travel to some place new again. Until now, i know very well the south part of Chile, i need to know a lot yet. From south america, i know a part of bolivia, uruguay and the last summer i visited a little part of argentina and a beach (really close to uruguay) from brasil. I like to know the little parts and the unknown from every place but until now i haven't achieve well :( but i keep trying.

But all this idea of traveling for life, crushes with my idea of change the world, or at least, the country. And that is also a kind of a dream so i think i will try to equilibrate this two things like traveling and learning and to do something with the knowledge.

My favourite subject

My favourite subject is Rural Anthropology. This subject started with the history of the "hacienda" in Chile. This part is quite boring because is really slow. After that, we studied the agrary reform and this is the most interesting part because it explains how rural world works now. And here we see how different were the reforms depending on the president, how Alessandri started a really lazy reform that Frei made more radical and had a big impact. After this, with the president Allende, this reform was totally radicall and the rural workers take a lot of power.
This subjetc includes go to the fields, some rural place were years ago an hacienda existed there, and interview people to rebuild the history of the agrary reform.
I like this subject because first the teacher is great. He explains the subject he has been investigating for a lot of years. The things we study here are interesting because, after this class i never question this history before and the rural life is a lot more common that what we know.
So i invite all of you to learn a little bit more of the rural history :)

An expert in my field

The expert in anthropology that i would like to write about is Max Gluckman, a South-African anthropologist. One of his contributions were introduced the importance of conflict in social situations and social structures, he was one of the first working this topic so he became a exponent in this area. The other contribution, in my opinion, is that in his works, he made explicit his history, his culture, his color, because he worked with the conflict between black and white people in Africa, so he was always aware of this aspects and he also write this so when we read, we understand why he think that way. Today, i think that the most important is the second contribution, but i don't think that he is consider for that. I found out about him in a subject named Anthropology IV, where we had to read one of his text about "zululand" as he wrote. In this text, he explain how this conflict where, in first, because of the colors and the different logic they had, but later was about interest. Particularly in Zulú, people relations where moved and based in their interest, but this relations where very fragile because there were a lot of changes.

Rural Anthropology

This semester i have a subject named rural anthropology and it sounds really interesting so i was very excited. The first classes were nice and the teacher i awesome, but then, the classes were about the "hacienda", a very interesting but slow topic so finally it became boring. The first test was exhausting because it last almost 4 hours, it was about the "hacienda" and mostly analysis of authors and situations. After this test, i wasn't as excited as the beginning, but i went to the class anyway and now the topic has change, now the teacher was talking about agrarian reform in Chile, since 1962 with Alessandri and how this reform was almost nothing because there was no change, but then, the reform that came with Frei was so big, in 1966, because this reform was about the territories and the unionism. Now we can criticize the logic underneath this reform, but if we evaluated in the moment, was a really big (and for a lot of people, nice) change in the way of living and working. After this, the changes that came with Allende were so much better because he introduced in this reform the idea of socialist State but it went to black with the coup d'etat. Now i already went to the field to interview some of this peasants that lived the reform and it is awesome how much you can find out just listen to them. So, i'm loving rural anthropology again.

Seagull

I choose this picture because it remind me a nice travel, nice day, nice moment.
It is one of the pictures i took that i really love because of many reasons. First, i love birds, i know that seagulls are kind of annoying birds but i think they are beautiful, and have awesome plumage. Another reason is  the movement that the photo shows, even when it is just a photo.
I took this picture in a christmas travel i made with my familiy and my wife's brother family to Horcón. It was a grey day (the ones i love) in the morning and i ask my brother to come with me to see the seagulls. As i said before, i like this photo because is about a bird flying, because of the movement of its wings when it was just starting flying, the colors, because i was the one who took it and because it was a nice moment.

Today i'm going to write about some perfect days we have sometimes. Recently i have an amazing day and i was so happy that i really think it was perfect. It started with some historical files, because i have to do a work of anthropology and history so i had to review some newspapers from 1910. Later, i have to do a math class because i work in a project where we do classes to help people pass 8th grade, people who had some problems (mostly economic) and can't finish their school and because of that they can't be hired directly in the university. This class we do once a week, and this day, this perfect day, we had a perfect class. They remember a lot of what we pass last year (and they usually don't remember anything o very little because they don't have time to practice) so the class was really productive and funny because we also use a lot of technological resources. After this, i went to a class of rural anthropology and we talk and learn about the agrarian reform since 1962 to 1973, because of the time. Next class we will review what happen after that. To end my day, i went to a protest in support to what is happening in Chiloé.

Tecnology

My favourite piece of technology is a camera, my camera. This piece is an artefact that take pictures of a moment and then you can printing this images. I got this camera almost a year ago, i saved a lot of money and then i bought it. I learn to use this artefact by doing, i always enjoy to take photos so, learning by doing in this case was really funny. My camera is real big, so i use it in my travels and in some special moments or in my house just for play with the lights and colors. I like this artefact for many reasons. At first i like it because it can capture a moment and it is awesome to have record of a lot of moments. Then i think that it wasn't the best to have everything recorded, so i stop taking photos and i started to think and remember more. But finally i think that balance is real so i take pictures just when i have and want to. Life without my camera would be awful for a time but i do not depend on it so i would not be the worst.

why did you choose this career?

I choose anthropology because when i was a child i wanted to be everything. I change my dream jobs every week, Some weeks i wanted to be a veterinary because i had a dog and i loved animals, and other weeks i wanted to be a doctor, a attorney, engineer, some weeks i wanted to dance and so on. So, when the time has come, and i had to choose, i thought in engineering because i wanted to work in the renewable energy field but finally, after a lot of things i choose anthropology because i had the possibility to research about anything i wanted to and because i found culture and people much more interesting than the mathematics that engineers use and study.
Until now, the first two years were all about theories so i was really bored but now in third year, is all about experiences and go to the field, learn and work with the people so i'm loving it. Some times i want to work in research projects and teach in the university but i rather not think about it now because i don't want to worry.

Adoption

I choose this topic because one of the things i want to do when i get older, is adopting.. a the most children the money allows me. I thing, there are a lot of reazons why a family, a woman or man gives for adoption a baby, mostly thinking that here in Chile there are no chance (or very dangerous chances) of abortion, So if i had the money to give them everything they need, i already have the love and motivation, why not try to improve the life of a little someone. About the difficult  process for adoption, i found it terrible, because i agree that there is a lot of things the parents have to pass because the importance of giving them a child. But the waiting it's arround two years and that doesn't encourage people to do it.
Meanwhile i adopted every animal i can (every animal my apparment and my mom allows me)
ps: The thing about the importance of money (i repeat it two times) it is because i thing you have to be responsable when we are talking about children. You don't have to be a millionare, but you have to had the resourses.

Hi everyone, I'm Renata. My birthday is May 26nd 1995 but i don't really like to celebrate it. Right now i'm studying anthropology in the university of Chile. I live just with my mom, my brother left the house almost 2 years ago. And i have a half sister who lives in concepcion with my two nieces. About what i do in my free time.. well that depends on what we consider like free time. Beside the classes, i do a lot of things inside and outside the university. The most importants are swimming, scouts and "nivelación de estudios jgm". So in the free time i got left, i usually watch series o read some novel.. but mostly series because I read so much for the university that i just want to relax my mind.
